BALTIMORE — January 15, 2026. Waranch & Brown, LLC, one of the top litigation defense firms in Maryland, proudly announces the elevation of R. Alexander Carlson to partner, effective immediately. The promotion reflects continued growth driven by expanding client demand across key markets and practices.

As a partner, Mr. Carlson will continue to focus his practice on defending against claims of medical malpractice and representing physicians and other health care providers in professional licensing and Board matters. Mr. Carlson also has significant experience representing health care providers and institutions in criminal-related matters.
Prior to joining Waranch & Brown, Mr. Carlson worked as an Assistant State’s Attorney with the Baltimore County State’s Attorney’s Office. With that office, he successfully litigated jury trials for armed robbery, burglary, domestic assault, and murder in the first degree. Mr. Carlson also served as an intern to the Honorable Judge Mickey J. Norman of the Circuit Court for Baltimore County.
Mr. Carlson earned his law degree, graduating Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. There, he received several honors, including the Order of the Barristers and the Order of the Coif. Prior to law school, Mr. Carlson earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland, College Park’s Robert H. Smith School of Business.
Mr. Carlson co-authored When A Judge Says “Expert,” The Jury Hears “EXPERT!!!” published in The Defense Line in 2022, and he previously served as a head coach for the University of Maryland Law School’s National Trial Team.
