Madeline Dwivedi, a trial attorney and an associate at Waranch & Brown, LLC, focuses on defending complex medical malpractice cases, as well as guides healthcare providers through regulatory and licensing matters. She delivers strategic counsel to hospitals and clinicians facing investigations under EMTALA and telehealth compliance issues, offering solutions shaped by her direct nursing experience and legal expertise. Ms. Dwivedi has tried several cases to defense verdicts.
Ms. Dwivedi began her career in the health care industry as a registered nurse, working in the emergency department and, more recently, as a charge nurse in the pediatric intensive care unit, where she received the “Nurse of the Year” award in 2020. Her front-line experiences led her to serve as a Nurse Policy Leader, where she expanded and evaluated policies at her hospital to improve patient safety and provider well-being, ultimately inspiring her transition to healthcare law.
Ms. Dwivedi brings specialized expertise in advising and defending hospitals and providers in disclosing or responding to EMTALA violations. She advises clients on compliance with state and federal laws affecting the provision of telehealth and telemedicine services, including issues related to licensure, scope of practice, and online prescribing, and is proficient in social security disability denials and appeals.
Prior to joining Waranch & Brown, Ms. Dwivedi worked as an associate at Epstein Becker & Green in their Washington, DC, focusing on healthcare fraud and investigations. She then served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Charles D. Austin on the United States District Court for the District of Maryland.
Ms. Dwivedi earned her law degree cum laude from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law in 2023, specializing in health care law. She interned at Kennedy Krieger Institute’s Project HEAL, providing legal services to patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and served as a Rule 19-220 attorney in the Gender Violence Clinic, representing individuals who are incarcerated. Additionally, Ms. Dwivedi served as an Associate Editor on the Journal of Health Care Law & Policy and worked for another local medical malpractice firm throughout her time in law school.
Prior to law school, Ms. Dwivedi obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Ms. Dwivedi’s nursing license remains active in the State of Maryland.
Ms. Dwivedi serves as the Chair of Lawyer Wellness for the Young Lawyer’s Division of the Maryland State Bar Association, supporting attorney mental health. She also is a member of the Communications Committee for the Mid-Atlantic Society for Healthcare Risk Management, to promote best practices at the intersection of healthcare policy and law. Ms. Dwivedi is licensed in Maryland, Washington, D.C., the United States District Court for the District of Maryland, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. She is a member of the Federal Bar Association, Maryland State Bar Association, and both the Baltimore City and County Bar Associations.
Ms. Dwivedi has been selected as a “Rising Star” by Maryland Super Lawyers every year since 2025.
