Nicole McCarus Deford

Nicole Deford is a trial attorney and partner at Waranch & Brown. Her practice focuses primarily on defending hospitals and healthcare providers in medical malpractice cases and Board of Physicians/Board of Nursing licensure issues. She received her law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law in 2004, where she was elected to the Phi Delta Phi Honors Fraternity. She earned a Certificate in Health Law and was an associate Editor on MARGINS: Maryland’s Law Journal on Race, Religion, Gender and Class. She has a strong interest in writing and is a certified proofreader. She is also certified by the Community Mediation Program to mediate disputes.

Mrs. Deford is recognized as a “Super Lawyer” in medical malpractice defense work. Court Admissions include the Supreme Court of the United States, United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and the United States District Court for the District of Maryland.

Mrs. Deford graduated with honors from Duke University in 1998. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in Biology and Spanish. Prior to entering law school, Mrs. Deford worked at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia, as a Visiting Fellow at the National Center for Environmental Health in the Division of Birth Defects and Pediatric Genetics. She is an alumna of the Bryn Mawr School in Baltimore, Maryland.

Mrs. Deford is a member of the Maryland-DC Society for Healthcare Risk Management and the Baltimore County Bar Association.
